VAR to be operational in Ghana football in a year or two – GFA

Plans are advanced to see the introduction of Video Assistance Referee gadgets in officiating local games, the Information Technology director for the Ghana Football Association, Mr Francis Adu Esah has hinted.

Delivering a lecture to the media in Accra, Mr Francis Adu Esah said GFA has initiated contact with CAF and FIFA concerning the technology and they are confident that the gadgets will be introduced in a year or two.

“In the quest to help our officiating officials and eradicate controversies from our game as being done globally, we have been in contact with FIFA and CAF and I can tell you that we are in the process of bringing in the VAR to Ghana in about a year or two”

The video assistant referee is an assistant referee in association football who reviews decisions made by the head referee with the use of video footage and headset for communication specifically in order to minimize human errors causing substantial influence on match results.
