NPP hasn’t won majority of seats in Parliament – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has disputed claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has secured a majority of the seats in Parliament in the just ended general elections.

The Director of Elections of the NDC, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah at a press conference on Tuesday said the NDC had so far won 140 parliamentary seats.

He indicated that the NPP was just making “desperate attempts to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians.”

“We want to state emphatically that it is not true that the NPP has a majority in Parliament. Currently, we are leading with 140 parliamentary seats.”

Allegations of vote-rigging

This is the third press conference held by the NDC.

The NDC had indicated at the first press conference that there had been instances where some persons were sighted with ballot papers thumb-printed in favour of the Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo Addo.

Mr. Ankrah asked the EC to answer to the citizenry for such anomalies.

The NPP, however, asked Ghanaians to disregard the NDC’s claims of rigging.

The Deputy National Campaign Manager of the NPP, Mustapha Hamid, said the NDC’s claim is borne out of fear of defeat in the general elections.

During the second press conference, Afriyie Ankrah announced that the NDC had flipped some 36 NPP parliamentary seats, a claim disputed by the governing party.
