The MCE for Ejura, Mohammed Salisu Bamba, has been sacked by the first gentleman of the land, Nana Akufo-Addo.
A source has confirmed the MCE has been asked to leave office immediately and handover to the Ashanti Regional Minister, pending the appointment of a new MCE.
According to the source, decision to remove the MCE was part of the measures to calm down tensions and avoid further escalations following the killing of protestors by security forces on Monday, June 28.
Salisu Bamba has since been out of the town and his location remains unknown.
Armed soldiers on said day opened fire into a group of unarmed civilians who were protesting the murder of a social media activist, Mohammed Ibrahim Kaaka, who was murdered.
The protest was over the refusal of the Ejura police to open an investigation into the murder.
The late Kaaka was dies at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after he was beating with stones and sticks on Saturday night by a mob.
His death sparked the protest as the residents believed he was targeted and killed for exposing the incompetence of the MCE.
Meanwhile, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Chief Imam and National Security Minister are in the town to mourn with the families of the victims.
